VP and Director of the Center for Home Care Policy & Research, Dr. Kathryn “Kathy” Bowles, was recently elected as a fellow to the National Academy of Medicine. The academy elected 100 individuals who’ve made significant contributions and breakthroughs in research that impacted public health challenges and improving the health and well-being of others.
Kathy was elected as a fellow due to her work that advanced the implementation of a learning system to improve health information technologies. Dr. Bowles and her team at the research center developed a support tool for patient discharge planning and identifying those who may need post-acute care services. Her research on sepsis survivors and discharge planning also resulted in a new ICD-10 code for sepsis aftercare.
Kathy joined VNS Health in 2014 and since then has led research efforts that promote the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective health care in the home and community. These efforts also help policymakers, elected officials, clinicians, providers, product teams, and more make data-driven decisions on home- and community-based services.
She is the vanAmeringen Chair in Nursing Excellence & Professor of Nursing at University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing with an over 20-year career in research. She is recognized throughout the world for achievements in decision science and telehealth. She has worked with several organizations and committees such as the National Quality Forum Care Coordination Steering Committee, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and Heath Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) Care Coordination Committee.
We thank Kathy for her dedicated and continuous support in helping drive VNS Health’s research efforts and improving the health of our patients, members, and neighbors.
