Veterans have honorably and proudly served our country. When the time comes that they need extra support, they deserve to access the many health care benefits available to them.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a vast array of benefits for veterans. Researching and applying for them can be overwhelming. Plus, many veterans don’t know that they can receive VA benefits. If you’re a veteran or the caregiver of a veteran, you may have questions about what benefits you’re eligible for and how to access them.
What Is VNS Health Veterans Outreach?
VNS Health Veterans Outreach connects you with programs that support your unique needs as a veteran. You’ll have a dedicated veterans liaison — who is a veteran themself — who can help you understand what benefits are available to you and how to make the most of them.
Veterans often experience specific health care issues, especially as they age. These issues may be the result of exposure to radiation, burn pits, or chemicals like Agent Orange or the result of injuries during service.
At VNS Health, we connect you with “service-connected benefits” — or benefits that are designed to support you as a veteran.
What Are Service-Connected Benefits?
Service-connected benefits support veterans’ unique needs for conditions arising from their military service, which may include:
- Cancers such as lung, bone, brain, esophageal, or bladder cancer
- Illnesses such as Lou Gehrig’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, or Alzheimer’s disease
- Injuries such as traumatic brain injuries
Many veterans’ benefits go unused. Whether you’re eligible for income-based benefits, non-income-based benefits, or both, we’ll connect you with the resources that best fit your needs. And if you already have health care benefits from Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance, we’ll direct you to supplemental benefits that will provide even more support.
At VNS Health, we do ongoing outreach with organizations that support veterans and their loved ones. That means we can provide you with the most up-to-date resources and information about health care benefits for veterans and their families. The VNS Health Veterans Outreach team, as well as our Veterans Home Care and Veterans Hospice Care teams, work closely with:
- VA hospitals
- Local hospitals, such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and NYU Langone
- Veteran community organizations such as VFW posts, the American Legion, Elks lodges, Rotary clubs, and Catholic War Veterans and Auxiliary of the USA
We’ll also help you communicate with these organizations so you can receive all of the benefits available to you.
How Veterans Outreach Supports Veterans
Our team is made up of veterans themselves, so we know the unique challenges you may face. We understand it can be hard to ask for help, but we also know that available benefits can help relieve financial stress and increase your quality of life.
We’re also here for veterans’ loved ones. We provide support for family members and loved ones who are caring for veterans. We’ll also help them access resources like death benefits and survivor benefits to make an otherwise challenging time a little less overwhelming. Finally, we’ll help find ways to honor veterans’ service, such as recognition ceremonies and medal recovery.
Veterans have served the nation honorably and selflessly. In return, they deserve excellent and compassionate care as they get older. At VNS Health, it’s our mission to connect veterans to the support they and their loved ones need.
