We’re thrilled to announce Bronx Home Care Nurse Jean V. as our 2025 Nurse of the Year Award winner! Jean was chosen out of 44 nominees for his long-time dedication to providing care for his patients, exceptional work ethic, and his positive mindset.
With over 32 years of dedicated service, Jean has made an incredible impact in the lives of countless people across New York City. Currently, he serves the South Bronx community, near Yankee Stadium, where he has lived for over 40 years. His deep connection to the neighborhood makes him an integral part of the community.
Jean takes immense pride in delivering quality home care, allowing patients to remain in the comfort of their home. “These patients really need us. Many are so sick when they come home from the hospital. They really need a visiting nurse to help them heal,” he shares. Originally from Haiti, Jean’s passion for the health care emerged in childhood. He pursued nursing at City College and eventually received his first nursing job in the emergency room. While working in the ER, he gained invaluable experience about medicine and providing care to patients. However, Jean realized his true calling was in home care, where he could make a profound impact on patients’ lives.
“There was nowhere better to do that than VNS Health.”
“I love the mission of serving and helping people in their home. I’m so proud to be working at this organization,” Jean says. His colleagues always praise his positive and caring attitude, noting his kindness towards every patient. He constantly goes above and beyond, not only for his patients but also for his team members. Jean shares his extensive knowledge and experience, offering practical insights that enhance patient care.
Some of that knowledge comes in the form of personalized tips based on his own experiences with patients. Whether it’s a unique wound care technique or speaking a few words in Spanish to comfort a patient, Jean’s attention to detail significantly helps his patients feel at ease.
“Little things matter a lot to our patients,” Jean explains. “When I can help my colleagues know these little things in advance, it makes the patient more comfortable and the visit much easier.” Jean is humbled by the recognition, saying how glad he is to work in home care and help others in need. “I try to avoid the spotlight,” he admits. “I just do what I love to do every single day.”
We thank Jean, who truly embodies VNS Health’s core values and mission. We also thank our nurses who go the extra mile every day to deliver care for our neighbors.
