VNS Health gets $4M Federal Grant to Open Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic

Crain’s New York Business featured VNS Health in their Health Pulse publication about how the organization was recently awarded a $4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to open a certified community behavioral health clinic in the South Bronx.

The federal grant allows VNS Health to continue supporting and growing our mental health care programs in the South Bronx. This is part of a growing trend in New York State thanks to allocation in this year’s budget going towards expanding certified community behavioral health clinics. Jessica Fear, SVP of behavioral health talks about how this new facility will not only provide substance use care management services, but also treatment options for local communities. Fear also notes how this new approach to care will address physical and social determinants of health.

“It’s truly integrated care,” Fear told Crain’s. “That’s the goal, is to treat the whole person and to get them into care as soon as possible. We want to eliminate all the roadblocks that keep people from getting into care quickly and staying in care.” The clinic aims to treat about 1500 patients during the grant period.
